Amigurumi Elephant pattern

Valentine's day is just two days away, so here's a little valentine's gift from me to you. This little elephant works up quickly so you can make and gift it to your loved ones for Valentine's day. Let's head to the tutorial.

   Materials needed:
  • Worsted weight acrylic yarn in lavender and aqua blue colour.
  •  3.5 mm crochet hook.
  •  Polyester fiber fill stuffing .                                   
  •  8 mm safety eyes.
  •  Tapestry needle.
  This pattern is written in US English terms and worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise
        
    Stitches/ Abbrevations:
·         R – round/ row.
·         Ch – chain.
·         St(s) – stitch(es).
·         Sc – single crochet.
·         Hdc – Half double crochet.
·         Dc – Double crochet.
·         Trc – Triple crochet/treble crochet.
·         Inc – increase (2sc in one st).
·         Dec – decrease (sc 2 st together).
·         Sl st – slip stitch.


      
      Head and Body:
       
       Worked in the order of trunk, head and body.
       With lavender colour yarn,  
     R1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6).                          
     R2-5: Sc in each st (6). 
     R6: [ Sc in next st, inc ] x 3  (9).
     R7-8: Sc in each st (9).
     R9: Sc in next 3 st, 2sc in next 3 st, sc in last 3 st (12).
     R10: Sc in next 3 st, 2sc in next 6 st, sc in next 3 st (18).
     R11: Sc in next 6 st, 2sc in next 6 st, sc in next 6 st (24). 
     Stuff very little amount of fiber fill on trunk.
     R12 : [Sc in next 3 st, inc] x 6 (30).
     R13: [ Sc in next 4 st, inc ] x6  (36).
     R14-25: Sc in each st (36).
     Insert 8mm safety eyes between R15 and R16 with 17 stitches in between.
     R26: [ Sc in next 4 st, dec ] x 6 (30).
     R27: [ Sc in next 3 st, dec ] x6  (24).
     R28: [ Sc in next 2 st, dec ] x 6  (18).  
     R29: [ Sc in next st, dec ] x 6  (12).
     Stuff the doll firmly using fibre fill.
     R30: [dec in each st] (6).
     Sew the ends closed using tapestry needle.

     Legs (Make 4):
     With lavender colour yarn,                    
     5 sc in magic ring (5).
     Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

     Ears (Make 2):
     With aqua blue colour,
     R1: 9sc in magic ring and sl st to the first sc.
     R2: chain 3 and 2 trc in the same st, 2 dc in next st, hdc in next, sc in next, (sc,dc,sc) in next stitch, sc in next, hdc in next, 2 dc in next st, (2 trc, ch 3) and slip stitch into the last stitch.

    Tail: 
     Take two strands of lavender yarn together. Leaving a little yarn at the start for sewing, ch 7 and fasten off. Cut off the excess leaving a small tail end. 
     With tapestry needle split the tail end.



     Assembling:
  • Attach the legs to the body. I placed the forelegs 5 stitches down from the eyes. 
  • Place the hindlegs 6 stitches away from the forelegs.
  • Sew on the ears one stitch away from the sides of the eyes.
  • Finally, sew the tail at the back of the body.


      And your chubby little elephant is now done!
