Macrame inspired crochet rainbow!

There is a rainbow of hope at the end of every storm.
Who doesn't love rainbow, right? A rainbow is a symbol of hope for a better tomorrow. The world is facing a tough crisis right now and hope is much needed to get through this hard times. Let's make a crochet rainbow today to lift up our spirit and to remind ourselves that storms don't last forever. I'm sure gifting this mini rainbow to your loved ones will cheer them up too. Read below for instructions on how to make it.

Materials needed:

  • DK weight cotton yarn in pink, green blue, violet and white colour.
  • 3 mm crochet hook.
  • Tapestry needle.

This pattern is written in US English terms.
Stitches/Abbreviations:
St - stitch.
Ch - chain.
Sc - single crochet.
Inc - sc increase ( 2 sc in each st).
Sl st - slip stitch.
R - row.

Note:
Each row is worked around 5 strands of white yarn.

Instructions:
Rainbow (make 2)
R1: Take 5 strands of white colour yarn measuring 26 cm each.
With pink colour yarn, sl st around those strands of white yarn and chain 1.
Make 12 sc around them.
Finish with a sl st around the strands. Fasten off leaving a small tail for sewing.

R2: Take 5 strands of white yarn measuring 28 cm each. Place the strands above R1. Attach green colour yarn to the first stitch of R1 and make a slip stitch (joining the strands of white yarn) and Chain 1,
[ sc, inc ] x 6 (18).
Slip stitch into the sl st of previous row. Fasten off leaving a small tail for sewing.

R3: Take 5 strands of white yarn measuring 30 cm each and place the strands above R2. Join blue colour yarn to the first st of R2 and make a slip stitch including the strands of white yarn. Chain 1,
[ sc, inc, sc ] x 6 (24).
Slip stitch into the sl st of previous row. Fasten off leaving a small tail for sewing.

R4: Take 5 strands of white yarn measuring around 32 cm each and place the strands above R3. Join violet colour yarn to the first st of R3, make a slip stitch including the strands of white yarn. Chain 1,
[ Sc, sc ,sc, inc ] x 6 (30).
Slip stitch into the sl st of previous row.
Fasten off. Sew in all the tail ends of coloured yarn to the back side.

Make another rainbow similarly and fasten off leaving a long tail end of violet colour yarn. We will need it to join the two rainbows so make sure to leave enough tail end.

Assembling:
  • Place both the pieces with wrong sides facing in. Make a whip stitch passing through both loops of the two pieces of rainbow using tapestry needle. Whip stitch twice in each stitch, fasten off and sew in the ends.
  • Separate two strands of thread from pink colour yarn (you can also use same colour sewing or embroidery thread) and using tapestry needle, make a running stitch starting from one end to other (in the place between R1 and R2). Make the stitches tight and fasten of. This will give a neat finish to the rainbow. (Pic below for reference).

  • Now unravel the strands of white colour yarn using a comb.
  • Trim off the white yarn to equal length.
And your beautiful rainbow is finished! Feel free to mix and match any colours of your choice.
