I've been smitten by cute amigurumi foods lately. Most of my amigurumis are animals and i rarely make food amigurumis. So this time, i wanted to incorporate food theme into my ami and came up with the idea of Octopus cupcake. Read below for instructions on how to make one.

- Black and pink embroidery thread.
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
dc - double crochet
dec - sc 2 together
rep ** - repeat stitches between **
Head:
Using pink color yarn,
R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
R2: 2sc in each st (12)
R3: *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st*, rep **(18)
R4: *sc in next 2 st, 2sc in next st*, rep ** (24)
R5: *sc in next 3 st, 2sc in next st*, rep ** (30)
R6-10: sc in each stitch (30)
R11: *sc in next 3 st, 1 dec in next st*, rep** (24)
R12: *sc in next 2 st, 1 dec in next st*, rep** (18)
Insert safety eyes between R9 and R10 with 5 stitches in between.
R13: *sc in next st, 1 dec in next st*, rep** (12)
stuff the head firmly
R14: sc dec around (6)
Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
We use popcorn stitch for the tentacles.
Popcorn stitch: 5 double crochet in the same stitch, pull up the loop on your hook and carefully remove the hook. Insert your hook from front on the top of first double crochet stitch and grab the dropped loop from back with your hook and pull it through. Finally secure the popcorn stitch with a chain.
You can learn the stitch using this video: Popcorn stitch tutorial
Tentacles:
R1: 8sc in magic ring (8)
R2: 2 sc in each st (16)
sl st to the next stitch, work a popcorn stitch in the same stitch, *skip one st, make a popcorn stitch in the next st*, rep ** 6 more times and sl st to the first st. You will now have 8 popcorn stitches that looks like a flower.
Note: When you make the first popcorn stitch, you will chain 3 (which counts as double crochet) and then 4 dc in the same st. You will insert the hook on the 3rd chain of the first stitch and continue the other steps in the popcorn stitch as usual.

R2: *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st*, rep **(9)
R3: sc in each st (9)
R4: *sc in next st, 1 dec in next st*, rep** (6)
Stuff firmly with fiberfill and close the opening with tapestry needle. Leave a long tail for sewing.
Frosting: (optional)
If you would like to add frosting (similar to the yellow octopus cupcake)
with brown yarn,
R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
R2: 2sc in each st (12)
R3: *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st*, rep **(18)
R2: 2sc in each st (12)
R3: *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st*, rep **(18)
Sl st in the next st, *chain 4, sc in second chain from hook and sc in the next 2 chain, sl st in the next three stitches, chain 3, sc in second chain from hook and sc in the next chain, sl st in the next three stitches*, rep ** two more times.
Assembling:
Attach the tentacles to the head.
Sew the frosting to the cupcake.
Sew the whipped cream on top of the head.
Sew the cherry on top of the whipped cream.
You can add a little blush using pink embroidery thread if you like.
And your Octopus cupcake is ready!
